Shan Meng Xia, Henan province
Shan Meng Xia orphanage, in Henan Province, is very poor yet must care for 92 babies and children, of which 76% have special needs. Of these children, 27 fall in the age range of 7 to 18 years old and we are happy to report that thanks to fundraising efforts by our amazing volunteers, LOOK was able to provide the following requested items for the older children.
Medical/Physical Needs: 1. purchase and fitting of digital signal processing high power behind-the-ear hearing aids, one for each of a severely hearing-impaired teenage boy, and hearing rehabilitation. 2. 6 basic wheelchairs for non-ambulatory children. 3. 2 walkers for children with limited ambulation. 4. A special guide cane for a blind child. 5. 2 new basic clothes sets for each of the 27 older children (54 outfits. 6. 2 new basic pairs of shoes for each of the 27 older children (54 pairs of shoes) . 7. basic summer socks for the older children. 8. 2 new sets of bed linens and towels for each of the 27 older children (27 pillows and blankets, 54 linen sets, 54 towels).
Education/Training Needs: 1. 1 computer for the older children to study on. 2. 10 desk and chair sets for the children's studies. 3. piano/keyboard lessons for a 17 year-old girl who has shown tremendous talent in this area. This girl taught herself to play the electronic piano at the orphanage and now teaches other children to play, but the orphanage would like to give her some formalized training.
Social/Emotional Needs: 1. 1 bicycle for the children to ride for recreation, at $30.00
The total funding to meet the needs of the older children at this orphanage was in the U.S. equivalent amount of $5050.50.
